The Sample Ballot booklet for San Francisco is 272 pages for this election. They are encouraging people to vote early, so we decided to head over to city hall and vote today. There were three ballot sheets and things to vote on on both sides - quite a ballot!
There were the usual things to vote for - president, vice president, congressman/woman. There were statewide propositions to consider, as well. But clearly things are a bit different here. Amongst the local measures is one which reads:
"Shall the City change the name of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W. Bush Sewage Plant?"
The mere fact that this is on the ballot at all means that someone came up with the idea and got enough signatures to get it there. Were they really serious? Or, as I suspect, was this a political statement? (A rather clever one, too.) Whatever the case, it makes a very clear statement that things really are different here.
